Birkbeck, University of London has committed to maintaining fees for postgraduate students from the European Union at the same level as those for UK home students, for those starting courses in the academic year 2018/19.

The commitment will also extend to holding fees for students from the European Union at the same level as UK home students for the entire duration of their course, for both new and returning students.

More recently, the government has confirmed that EU students will continue to remain eligible for undergraduate, postgraduate and advanced learner financial support in the academic year 2018/19.

EU students applying for an undergraduate or Master’s course at an English university or further education institution in the 2018/19 academic year will continue to have access to student loans and grants, even if the course concludes after the UK’s exit from the EU.

The announcement follows the triggering of Article 50 by the UK Government, officially starting the process of the UK’s exit from the European Union and a two-year period of negotiations to determine what form that exit will take.

Commenting on the College’s commitment, Professor David Latchman CBE, Master of Birkbeck, said:

“Birkbeck continues to welcome students from across the EU and we hope the commitment we are announcing provides reassurance in an uncertain context.

“The diversity our international students bring to the College enriches the learning experience we offer and contributes to the vibrant environment that we know our community values.”
