Almost 900 graduates  are celebrating their achievements as they attend a series of ceremonies during Birkbeck’s autumn Graduation Week.

Within the majestic Art Deco splendour of Senate House’s Beveridge Hall, the former students will receive personal congratulations from the Master of Birkbeck, Professor David Latchman CBE, and President of the College Baroness Bakewell, during six ceremonies over the course of three days, from Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 November.

In all, 879 former students are to attend the events which mark the culmination of their studies and also illustrate the international diversity of the College’s community, graduates drawn from a diverse range of more than 110 nations, including Papua New Guinea, Eritrea, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.

Sizeable contingents from Brazil, Iran, Italy, Romania and Nigeria will be among those receiving their qualifications during Graduation Week.

A little over four in ten of those graduating are under the age of 30 and 46% are between the ages of 31 and 50. As many as 4% are over the age of 60.

Of those graduates based in London, Lambeth tops the list in terms of the highest number of graduating students living in the borough, followed by Barnet, Hackney and Camden.

Following the success of previous ceremonies, this November’s graduation ceremonies will also be live-streamed online, enabling family and friends across the world to share in the excitement of the occasion.

In addition, four fellows are receiving their awards at various ceremonies throughout the week.

Commenting on this spring’s graduation ceremonies, Professor David Latchman CBE, Master of Birkbeck, said: “The diversity of the body of graduates at these ceremonies is testament to the welcoming and inclusive environment we work hard to maintain at Birkbeck, continuing our founding mission to welcome working Londoners – whatever their nationality and background – to achieve their aspirations.”

Galleries of students and their families at the graduation are being added throughout the week, with Arts, SSHP, Science, Law, BEI and BEI/SSHP now online.
