Major award for Birkbeck academic

Professor Diana Coole, from the Department of Politics, has been conferred the title of Academician from the Academy of Social Sciences.

Prof Coole is director of the MSc/MRes in Social and Political Theory, and she sits on the editorial boards of several journals, including the European Journal of Political Theory. She is also co-editor for the Blackwell Encyclopaedia of Political Thought (forthcoming 2010)

Diana's broad field of research is modern political and social theory and contemporary continental political philosophy. Some of her particular interests include Hegel and Marx, Nietzsche and the Frankfurt School.

This year, the academy has conferred the award of Academician on 64 individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to the social sciences. There are now over 600 recognised Academicians working in the UK.
