Citizenship at Birkbeck

Birkbeck plays host to two citizenship events on Friday March 13, sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Learning by Doing: Intercultural Communicative Competence and Global Citizenship from Young Age

This event, organised by Birkbeck’s Department of Applied Linguistics and Communication, as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Sciences, aims to promote experiential learning (EL) as an effective method of developing intercultural communicative competence and global citizenship among young people. It will bring together organisations and charities working with young people, share good practice among these organisations and debate on the key issues associated with EL.

The keynote speaker is Claudio Baraldi, a professor of Sociology from University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy. He will speak on the effectiveness of experiential learning in developing Intercultural Communicative Competence and Global Citizenship.

9:30am - 3:30pm, 43 Gordon Square.

The event is free to attend, but due to limited places, booking is essential.
