Brazilian link for Birkbeck

Birkbeck is forging closer links with the largest university in Latin America. An international agreement has been signed between Birkbeck's Department of Psychosocial Studies, School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy and the Department of Social Psychology, Institute of Psychology at the University of Sao Paulo (USP). The agreement will enable an exchange of students and staff between the two institutions, aiming to increase Birkbeck's international visibility and facilitate contact between PhD students. The USP is a public university where the 56,000 undergraduate students and 30,000 post-graduate students study free. Last year it celebrated its 75th year of teaching. It is eager to follow a Brazilian government directive to become one of the 100 top universities in the world, and is therefore keen on international links of this kind with Birkbeck.

The agreement was pre-signed in Brazil by the President of USP and the Dean of the Institute of Psychology. Shown at the signing at Birkbeck are (left to right) Professor Stephen Frosh, PVM Research, Department of Psychosocial Studies, Dr Belinda Mandelbaum (USP), Lecturer in the Department of Social Psychology, University of São Paulo, Professor David Latchman, Master of Birkbeck, and Professor Miriam Zukas, Executive Dean of the School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy.
