Birkbeck retains London top spot
Birkbeck is once again rated number one in London in this year's National Student Survey. Students awarded the College a 90% satisfaction score, making Birkbeck the top rated multi-faculty institution in the capital, and joint fourth nationally.
Birkbeck was also rated number one in London for the quality of its teaching, for assessment and feedback, for academic support and for student personal development.
"Yet again our students have shown how highly they value Birkbeck, our teaching and the support they receive," said Professor Philip Dewe, Vice-Master of Birkbeck. "In the midst of a recession, applications are at record levels with more Londoners opting for our part-time evening provision than ever before."
A number of subjects scored 90% and above for overall satisfaction and quality of teaching, including History, Philosophy, Languages, English and Archaeology.
Now in its fifth year, the National Student Survey gives students a platform to express their opinions on their higher education student experience, and is used to compile a year on year comparison of nationally recognised data which helps prospective students make informed choices of where and what to study. The survey runs across all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and participating HEIs in Scotland. Additionally, since 2008, Further Education Colleges (FECs) with directly funded higher education students in England have been eligible to participate.
