Birkbeck links up with Tower Hamlets College

On Friday 3 July Birkbeck and Tower Hamlets College signed a progression agreement, which aims to encourage Further Education students to progress onto Business courses at Birkbeck. The Progression Agreement links the Access to HE Diploma (Business and Accounting) at Tower Hamlets College to the Foundation Degree in Management, the Foundation Degree in Management and Accounting, the BA in Management and the BA in Accounting and Management at Birkbeck.

It is hoped that this will raise the aspirations of vocational students, who often feel that university is not open to them.  Agreements such as this are part of the ongoing work of Birkbeck and Linking London to encourage students with non traditional qualifications such as Access, BTEC, and Diplomas into higher education.

The agreement was brokered by Linking London Lifelong Learning Network, which is hosted at Birkbeck. The agreement was signed by Dean Pateman, Academic Registrar, Birkbeck; Dr Paz Estrella Tolentino, Admissions Tutor in Undergraduate Programmes, Department of Management, Birkbeck; Rachel McLeod, Head of Access Programmes, and Mary Couling, Director of Adult Learning, both from Tower Hamlets College.

Earlier this month, Birkbeck signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the College of North East London to give Tottenham students new progression routes into HE. Click here to learn more about that initiative.
