£75,000 for scholarships and travel as Birkbeck and Santander sign agreement

Scholarships and travel bursaries to visit Brazil are part of a new partnership

Scholarships and travel bursaries to visit Brazil are part of a new partnership between Birkbeck and Santander – one of the world’s largest banks.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students, and staff will benefit from the funding, which includes money for research overseas, international exchanges, and supporting entrepreneurship activities.

The three-year agreement between Birkbeck and the Santander Universities Global Division is worth a total of £75,000. The partnership was signed by Professor David Latchman (pictured, right), Master of Birkbeck, and Luis Juste (pictured, far right), Director of Santander Universities UK, on 2 December at Birkbeck.

Professor Latchman said: “This new partnership is really exciting, and we are grateful for this commitment from Santander Universities. It will help us expand our international exchanges and entrepreneurial activities – two areas we are focusing on more and more at Birkbeck.”

Mr Juste said: “We are delighted to welcome Birkbeck as a new partner for Santander Universities. Birkbeck has a very strong reputation for providing excellent higher education in London, and the work of the College has made an important difference to adult education in the UK. We hope our funding will allow many of its students and researchers to pursue their academic goals.”

PhD students will be able to visit overseas universities which are partners of the Santander Universities.
