ID card photographs

The following guidance will help you upload an acceptable photograph for your ID card.   Please note that you will be refused entry into buildings and examinations if the picture on your card is not clearly visible and/or not resembling you.

We need a good quality passport style photo which must meet the following criteria:

  1. jpeg (filename.jpg) – we recommend you use JPEG format
  2. The photo should be of you alone
  3. Clear with good contrast and no shadows
  4. Head and shoulders only (without any head covering, unless it is worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons; and nothing covering your face).
  5. Facing front
  6. No glasses unless you normally wear them
  7. The photo must be a close-up of your head and shoulders with direct view of your face so that your face covers approximately 65% to 75% of the photo – see box below

Photos should be similar in nature to a passport photo and will remain on your ID card for the duration of your course. Uploading a photo that does not meet the above criteria or is not a photo of you may be classed as defacing your card and you will be liable for the cost of a replacement card which is currently £10.
