Before the start of each academic year, Birkbeck's support services, schools and departments organise a wide range of summer programmes, orientation and induction events designed to help you get ready for your course and get the best possible start.
Get Ahead Summer Programmes
- The FREE Get Ahead Summer Programmes are series of workshops that will introduce you to all the services and facilities at the College that are available to you as a student and we will look at ways in which you can brush up on and develop your study skills before you start your course.

Orientation events for all new students
- Orientation events are designed to give you a general overview of support services available to you at Birkbeck. School and department induction events are more specific to the subject you are studying.
- Student Orientation (Bloomsbury campus) The next Orientation events at the main campus will take place:
- Monday 17 September 2012 (Undergraduate and Cert HE students)
- Tuesday 18 September 2012 (Undergraduate and Cert HE students)
- Wednesday 19 September 2012 (Postgraduate students)
- Thursday 20 September 2012 (Postgraduate students)
- Saturday 22 September 2012 (all students)
- Student Orientation (Stratford campus) The next Stratford Orientation event will take place in Stratford in September 2012.
- Online Orientation Our online orientation for all new students also provides wide range of information that you will need before you start at Birkbeck. You can also download the Student Guide

You will find a wide range of interactive tutorials to help you prepare for your course and support you during the first weeks of your degree.
Orientation events for international students
- Birkbeck organises a number of orientation programmes to help international students adjust to life in the UK and to prepare you for your studies.
School and Department induction events
- Alongside the general orientation events, more in-depth subject-specific inductions are organised by academic departments. Check with your programme manager for details of forthcoming induction events.
