Coping with long reading lists

There is no need to be intimidated!

The list might be long because your lecturer is listing a number of books covering similar ground because he/she is mindful that the library may not have enough copies to go round. It is sufficient to read one of the basic textbooks only. Also, the list may include a number of publications to cater for more specialised interests. Ignore those and concentrate on essential reading first.

  1. Look at publication dates and choose the most recent ones.
  2. Be selective, look at chapter headings or article titles and only read those that appear relevant to your topic.
  3. However, do not confine yourself to the reading list only; you may come across interesting and relevant information from completely different sources.
