Coping with long reading lists
There is no need to be intimidated!
The list might be long because your lecturer is listing a number of books covering similar ground because he/she is mindful that the library may not have enough copies to go round. It is sufficient to read one of the basic textbooks only. Also, the list may include a number of publications to cater for more specialised interests. Ignore those and concentrate on essential reading first.
- Look at publication dates and choose the most recent ones.
- Be selective, look at chapter headings or article titles and only read those that appear relevant to your topic.
- However, do not confine yourself to the reading list only; you may come across interesting and relevant information from completely different sources.
