10.00 - 12.30   Critical Thinking Skills
This workshop will enable you  to develop your ability to think critically in an academic context so that you can:

• identify academic arguments
• recognise deductively valid arguments
• recognise inductively forceful arguments
• identify attempts to persuade which rely on feelings and language
• detect fallacious reasoning
• assess evidence critically

12.30 – 1.15       LUNCH    

1.15 - 3.15   Critical Writing Skills
This workshop willl enable you to write critically by developing your ability to:

• argue persuasively with reasons and conclusions
• distinguish between arguments, descriptions, and assertions
• evaluate and present evidence effectively
• adopt an appropriate style
• signpost your argument with appropriate language
• write cautious conclusions
