Financial support for MPhil/PhD students
At MPhil/PhD level, there is limited funding. MPhil/PhD students are expected to have made realistic provision at the start of their course to fund their tuition fees, course costs and living costs.
- Overview of financial support: if you are planning to start your degree in September 2009 or January 2010, you may find our overview helpful.
- Academic funding: You may be eligible to apply for academic studentships, including:
- AHRC Block Grant Funding
- School of Arts research studentships
- School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy research studentships
- Career Development Loans: this is a bank loan designed to help you pay for work-related learning. You don't have to start paying your loan back until one month after you stop training.
- Disabled Students' Allowance: this provides financial help for students with a disability, medical condition or specific learning difficulty.
- Help with childcare costs: you may be able to get some help to pay for your childcare.
