Charities and trusts

Many charities and trusts provide support both for disabled students specifically and students in general. This funding is entirely discretionary. Below are some links to charities who have assisted Birkbeck students in the past, but this is not a definitive list, and we recommend that you liaise with the Disability Office if you wish to make an application for charitable funding.

  • The Snowdon Awards Scheme is a charity that provides grants to students with physical or sensory disability, to help them complete further or higher education or training.
  • The Mike Devenney Scholarship helps talented and independent minded disabled students, both undergraduate and postgraduate with some of the costs of studying at higher education institutions.
  • The British Association of Health Services in Higher Education runs the Student Disability Assistance Fund to help students with disabilities keep up with their studies.
  • The E E Wiley Scholarship, to the value of £250 per annum, is tenable by a British-born, blind student and is awarded for up to three years for a degree in any subject at Birkbeck.
