Senate House North Block

  • This has ramp access at the entrance.
  • There is a lift that is wheelchair-accessible, but it does not have auditory announcements, tactile or Braille buttons.
  • For security reasons the lift does not stop at the first floor (where most lectures theatres and workstation rooms are located). Students who are unable to negotiate the stairs, however, can obtain a lift key that will allow them to access the first floor from the Senate House North Block Reception, with prior agreement from the Department of Computer Science.
  • Entry to the first floor is by telephone intercom or through the use of proximity cards that are issued on an individual basis to Computer Science students.
  • Most lecture theatres, classrooms and computer workstation rooms are accessible to wheelchair users, but there are no induction loop facilities.
  • Acoustics and lighting are generally adequate for all users needs.
  • There are accessible toilets on the basement floor of this building.
  • The lift in this building is not yet suitable for the emergency evacuation of disabled persons, and other strategies would be employed should such action ever be necessary.
