Taking a break in studies
If necessary, you can suspend studies for up to two years during your programme of study. This may either be for a period of two years or non-consecutive shorter periods that add up to a total of two years or less (although applications for a break in studies of less than one term will not be considered).
Applying for a break in studies
If you want to apply for a break in studies, you will need to write to your programme director or supervisor, giving details of the length of the proposed break and the reasons for the application. If the application is approved, your academic department or school will write to you to confirm the dates of any break in study. You may need to pay an administration fee.
If you need to take a break of longer than one year, you should stay in touch with your programme director and confirm your re-attendance or apply for a longer break, as appropriate.
Break in Studies - 2012/13 Fee Arrangements
Students who do not continue with their programme beyond 1 month of study will normally be deemed to have withdrawn, and will need to re-apply to commence their programme in 2012/13. In these circumstances if a student then begins their programme again after Sept 1st 2012, the new fee arrangements will apply. If a student wishes to take a break in study and has completed the first month of study they will be considered to have officially started their course in 2011/12 and the new fee arrangements will not apply. E.G. for students starting programmes in Autumn 2011, students requesting a break in studies prior to Oct 31st will normally be deemed as withdrawn.
What happens if you don't re-enrol on time
If you do not re-enrol after having completed two years of breaks in study, you will be deemed to have withdrawn from your programme. And then, if you wish to resume your programme after having been withdrawn, you may be required to re-apply for admission.
