Change in procedures for students submitting entry paperwork after 30 July 2010

The Research Degrees Examination Office, based in Senate House, will no longer be providing the administrative support we currently use in regards to PhD Submission. This process will be managed by the Research Student Unit located within Registry Services.

Students are currently required to submit all of their PhD Submission Entry paperwork to the Research Student Unit and this will remain the same. However, procedures for submission of the actual thesis will change.

Students will be required to submit their theses to the My Birkbeck Student Centre, located on the immediate left of the main entrance to Birkbeck. A receipt will be issued to confirm the date and receipt of two copies of the thesis bound according to regulations. The theses will be kept in a secure location and sent out to the examiners as soon as the examiners have been officially approved by the College.

In accordance with the University of London regulations, most candidates for the PhD will initially be registered for an MPhil degree. You need to apply to be upgraded to the PhD, but you should talk to your supervisor about this in the first instance.
