UCU strike action

We have been advised that the University and College Union (UCU) have announced plans for strike action in relation to pay and job security, and proposed changes to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS). This will comprise two days of strike action: the first on Tuesday 22 March and the second on 24 March. This action only applies to staff who are members of UCU.

We regret that the College may not be able to maintain a normal service on that day and teaching schedules may be subject to cancellation by the lecturer.

How to find out if your class has been cancelled

  1. Check our list of class cancellations to see if your class is listed (this list may not be complete).
  2. You should check your timetable on your My Birkbeck profile on the day of your class (prior to setting off to travel to your class). If the lecturer has informed us that your class has been cancelled, a cancellation message will be displayed there.

We will do our best to provide accurate information. However, please note that there may be instances where advance notification of a cancellation is not received, in which case, please accept our apologies for any disruption to your teaching.

Library

The Library will be open normal hours (8.30-23.45), but there may be restricted help desk services.

All other College services are expected to function normally.
