Students approve of My Birkbeck website
Since its launch in August 2009, the My Birkbeck student support website has received 95,500 unique visitors – making it the second most popular area of the Birkbeck website after the main home page.
A first survey has shown that the site is popular with students. The survey was timed to run over two weeks in January and included all current students (new and returning).
511 students completed the survey and findings have been positive, with over 80% saying the site was easy to use and relevant as they were able to find what they were looking for.
42% of students visit the site every week, with the majority checking their My Birkbeck profile (62%), and looking for information about IT, library and study skills support (49%).
Open-ended questions provided an opportunity for students to feedback in more detail and this has proved to be particularly useful in getting insights into areas that Birkbeck needs to develop or improve.
There were a many positive comments, such as:
“Generally, I find it an excellent online support for my studies. I’ve been really pleased with it and have found it very helpful.”
“A huge improvement on the services available when I first attended Birkbeck five years ago.”

To help us gain a more in-depth understanding of what students think of the website, and to help us improve the site and make it more useful for all our students, we are running a number of focus groups.
The focus groups will take place at the main Birkbeck building in Torrington Square in central London on:
- Wednesday 10 February, 6.00pm – 7.30pm
- Wednesday 17 February, 6.00pm – 7.30pm
- Thursday 18 February, 6.00pm – 7.30pm
