New appeals, complaints and fitness to study policies for students launched
Birkbeck is committed to giving you the best student experience possible. However, there may be times when you wish to raise an issue with us. To make that easier and more transparent, the College has updated its complaints and appeals policies.
All formal complaints and appeals and requests for fitness to study interventions received from 4 January 2016 onwards will be considered under these new policies:
- Appeals policy and procedure for taught students
- Appeals policy and procedure for research students
- Student Complaints policy and procedure
- Fitness to study procedure
- Quick Guide to appeals
- Quick Guide to complaints
What improvements have we made?
Each of the policies and processes has been designed according to guidance given by the Office of the Independent Adjudicator and the Competitions and Markets Authority, and is in line with how other universities handle complaints and appeals.
In addition, the College has revised its Fitness to Study policy and procedure, which is designed to help students whose health or wellbeing has deteriorated to a point that they find it difficult to continue their studies.
