| External examiner | Appointed from outside the department or school to moderate and ensure quality assurance over each award and within a programme. |
| Internal moderator | Appointed from the lecturers contracted to teach on the current programme to take part in assessment procedures. |
| Lecturer | The person who teaches individual classes and normally first-marks their students’ coursework |
| Module | A component of an award that has one or more classes |
