Concessionary fees for Certificates of Higher Education
Many of our Certificate of Higher Education modules offer concessionary fees, normally half of the full fee.
Please note: although there are no concessionary fees for our academic English courses, you may be eligible for a reduced fee.
Are you eligible?
Concessionary fees are available for students applying for our Certificates of Higher Education if, at the time of application, you are in receipt of one of the following:
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Benefit
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Working Tax Credit
- Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
Concessionary fees are also available if you are:
- a pensioner and your sole source of income is a Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) state retirement pension and/or
- a pensioner in receipt of Pension Credit
What proof do you need?
If you are claiming a concessionary fee, you must provide one of the following documents when you enrol, as proof of your entitlement:
- a current giro, payment book or a recent letter from Jobcentre Plus confirming you are in receipt of benefit at the time of enrolling
- a DWP pension book or BR464 card or a letter confirming entitlement to a state retirement pension
- a Working Tax Credit award certificate, detailing the household income.
- If you enrol by post, please enclose a photocopy of the relevant documents with your application form.
Enrolling and applying for a concession
We are unable to take online or telephone enrolments from applicants claiming concessionary fees.
If you wish to apply for concessionary fees you will need to download a Modular Enrolment Form. Once you have completed the form detailing which module(s) you would like to enrol on, you will need to return it by post, fax or in person to the My Birkbeck Helpdesk along with your proof of concessionary entitlement.
