Annie Besant award 2011/12

These bursaries are open to part-time Undergraduate students of any discipline, who are currently a resident of the London Borough of Southwark.

The purpose of the award is to enable students to continue with their studies in circumstances where they may have struggled to do so on account of financial hardship. The award may be used for tuition fees, the purchase of approved books, travel to and from College, or to assist with the costs of attending essential field courses.

The value of the award is flexible, and is expected to be sufficient to ensure that the recipient will be able to remain on their course of study.

Eligibility Criteria

You will be eligible to apply if you meet all the following criteria:

  • You must be a 'Home' student.
  • You must be enrolled for 2011/12 on a part-time undergraduate degree.
  • You must be living in the London Borough of Southwark.

Student Financial Support Office, Birkbeck, The Registry, Malet Street, London, WC1E 7HX.

Applications can be made throughout the 2011/12 academic year.  The final deadline for receipt of applications is 1st June 2012.

About Annie Besant

Annie Besant was a prominent theosophist, women's rights activist, writer and orator, who studied part-time at Birkbeck. The College received a donation in 1995 from the Annie Besant Trust for the support of part-time undergraduate students resident in Southwark.
