Biography

My background has been as manager and consultant in private industry in the UK and USA, but entered academia some twenty three years ago. I have been teaching in higher education for more than twenty years.

My research examines decision-making, the impact of new technology on organisations and the processes by which strategy is developed during periods of rapid technological change. It also covers social media, the digital divide and social exclusion, and research methods. My doctoral thesis focused on the resource based view of the firm, and how organisations develop IS strategy and acquire new capabilities and competencies. Prior to research in IS, my area of interest was accounting and financial management.

I joined the Business and Management department in the School of Business Economics and Informatics in September 2010, prior to that I was a Researcher and lecturer at Bath Spa University and at the University of Bath, where I taught both accounting and information systems. I have also taught computer science and software engineering.

I have professional qualifications as Chartered Practicing Accountant, (CPA Australia); Chartered Information Technology Practitioner (CITP); Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and I am a member of the Association of Information Systems where I have been an associate editor of the European conference of information systems (ECIS). I am also a reviewer for: BMJ Open; British Journal of Management (BJM); California Management Review (CMR); European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS); Information Systems Journal (ISJ); Journal of American Society for Information Science and Technology (JASIST); Journal of Communications Management (JOCM); Journal of Information Technology (JIT).
