Biography

Professor George Christodoulides joined Birkbeck, University of London in January 2013 as Head of Marketing Group from Henley Business School where he was School Director of Postgraduate Research Studies.  Previously George was Director of the MSc Marketing Suite at the University of Birmingham where he also completed his PhD on online brand equity evaluation.  In his capacity as Assistant Dean for Research coordinates effort to maximise the quality and impact of research within the School of Business, Economics and Informatics.

His research interests and expertise lie in the areas of brand management and digital marketing/marketing communications, particularly consumer-based brand equity conceptualisation and measurement and the impact of mobile, interactive, and social media on consumer-brand relationships. George’s research has attracted funding from prestigious external bodies including the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the British Academy, the Academy of Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He is a regular presenter and invited speaker at national and international conferences, and his research has appeared in leading scientific journals including Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, European Journal of Marketing, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Advertising Research, International Marketing Review and Marketing Theory.

George is an Associate Editor for the International Marketing Review and has guest edited a book and special issues of the European Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Business Research, and Industrial Marketing Management on various aspects of brand management.  He is member of ESRC’s virtual college of peer reviewers and serves on the editorial advisory boards of the Journal of Advertising Research, Industrial Marketing Management, International Journal of Advertising and Journal of Product & Brand Management.  He is Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the European Marketing Academy and the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS).

George has consulted various companies on their digital marketing and branding strategies including Jaguar, Beiersdorf, TUI, Dulux, Justsayplease.com, and Studentbeans.com.  He is also member of BrainReserve, a US-based think tank consulting Fortune500 companies about future market trends.

Professor Christodoulides is External Examiner at King’s College London and Cardiff University.
