Sport Policy and Development

Assessment: A two-hour examination (75%) and a coursework essay of a maximum 2500 words (25%). The deadline for the coursework is Friday 2nd December 2011 (Absolute Cut-Off deadline – 23rd December 2011)
Aims
- Introduce and critique the key debates in sport policy and development
- Develop theoretical knowledge on sport policy
- Critically appraise existing approaches to sports development
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, students will:
- Understand key issues in sport policy and development
- Have a critical understanding of political ideologies and their relevance to understanding sport policy
- Be familiar with a range of theoretical perspectives for analysing sport policy
- Understand the historical development of sport policy
- Be able to explain the structure of the sport industry in the UK and the role of government, national sport agencies and other relevant sports organisations
