Research
Andrea is interested in the theory and measurement of innovation at the firm level with an emphasis on international dimensions. For his PhD thesis he has explored the role played by industrial design in the innovative process of the firm.
Together with Daniele Archibugi he has developed the Global Innovation Scoreboard for the European Commission which develops a composite indicator for cross-country comparison of innovation performance and technological capabilities of 45 countries.
He is also interested in Open Innovation models, and collaborative models of innovation, including open source innovations, and the role of the Intellectual Property Rights systems.
Finally, he is currently involved in a project together with Marion Frenz and Grazia Ietto-Gillies, which aims at investigating the relationships between internationalization and innovation at the country level.
