Information for Chairs of Parallel Sessions

  • The Session Chair should be in their session's room about 10 minutes prior to the start of the session to ensure that all presentations are uploaded onto the PC / laptop.
  • The main responsibility of a Session Chair is to ensure the smooth running of the session, keep time and oversee the discussion following the paper presentation.
  • The Chair will decide, in consultation with the presenters, if the discussions will proceed after each paper presentation or at the end of all paper presentations.
  • As a rough guideline, Session Chairs may consider allowing around 60% of the session time for presentations and 40% for discussion.

Information for Speakers and Presenters

  • Each room will be equipped with either a PC or a laptop with Microsoft Office Suite programmes such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint version 2013, a data projector and screen.
  • Delegates using Mac laptops need to bring with them an adaptor from either Mac to VGA or from Mac to HDMI.
  • We would encourage you to bring your presentation on a USB stick which should then be loaded into the room’s PC/laptop prior to your session.
  • Presentations should last no more than 20 minutes to allow sufficient time for discussions and Q&As (the exact time depends on the number of papers in the session – consult Session Chair).

Wifi Access

There will be Wifi access at Senate House and the access details will be included in the delegate pack. There will also be Wifi access at Birkbeck, of which a guest username and password will be provided in the Conference pack. Please connect to the BBK-Guest wireless network.
