Birkbeck is partnering with Le Cordon Bleu, the leading global network of culinary arts and hospitality management institutes to deliver a new Bachelor of Business Administration in Culinary Industry Management.
With the evident growth and diversity in the global food industry over the last twenty years, the new degree has been designed to cater to the wide range of new employment and career opportunities that has arisen in the industry.
The innovative degree provides a firm foundation in culinary techniques and management studies that are not only applicable to food businesses but also across other service industries. During the course of the degree students will develop practical culinary skills, as well as extensive knowledge of food and beverage products and services, management and marketing practices.
André Cointreau, President of Le Cordon Bleu says:
“The programme developed jointly with Birkbeck and Le Cordon Bleu is a unique Bachelor’s honours degree combining Business management with Culinary Arts and Hospitality studies in the ideal setting of both institutions; equipping students with the skills set and knowledge to develop international careers.”
The only one of its kind in London, the three-year degree will be delivered jointly with the modules being taught across both sites, giving students access to the full range of facilities at both Birkbeck and Le Cordon Bleu London.
Modules from Birkbeck’s Department of Management will be taught through lectures and seminars, and modules that are based on professional practice and techniques will be delivered at Le Cordon Bleu. These will consist of workshops, demonstrations and practical sessions in the renowned school’s state-of-the-art facilities.
A three-month internship has been integrated into the degree to equip students with the experience of working in a real food business environment, whilst also developing their academic, practical and interpersonal skills.
Professor David Latchman CBE, Master of Birkbeck, adds:
“This latest partnership is a fitting chapter in Birkbeck’s long history of meeting the needs of working Londoners and will well-equip those looking to seize the chance to become part of the next generation of culinary leaders. We look forward to welcoming our first group of students this autumn.”
The first semester will begin in September 2017.
