Diana Beattie: MSc Corporate Governance and Business Ethics

I developed a passion for governance as a result of my practical experience advising boards of directors on good governance practices in my professional life and focusing on performance and accountability as a member/chair of boards in my volunteer life. The MSc Corporate Governance and Business Ethics programme at Birkbeck put my practical experience into perspective, particularly as regards various theoretical frameworks underpinning governance and organizations and management in general.

In my opinion, the UK is at the forefront of governance research and applications. The Birkbeck programme is leading-edge and unique given its international scope, cross cultural perspective and interdisciplinary approach. The diversity of thought, age, experience and background including ethnic origin amongst faculty and students create a stimulating environment in which to explore and learn.

As a student who gives new meaning to the word "mature", my Birkbeck post graduate degree and experience have given me a renewed sense of confidence and purpose as an individual and a genuine sense of hope for the future for our "global village".
