Can you mentor a member of Birkbeck staff?

We are pleased to announce that a mentoring scheme open to all Professional and Support staff has been recently agreed.  As approved by Human Resources Strategy and Policy Committee, we are inviting staff to come forward as mentors before we invite mentees.  The number of mentors available to participate in the scheme is critical to its success.

Mentoring complements other learning and development activities, including training events and secondments.  The College already uses mentoring to support specific career development programmes such as Athena Swan and the Aurora Programme, and peer mentoring exists within the induction process.  Academics and researchers also have departmental research mentoring.

We had feedback from the staff survey that staff wanted greater career development opportunities and this new mentoring scheme is a key way of supporting this aim.

We will invite mentees later next term.

Mentors will participate in Birkbeck training, which will help them understand their responsibilities and build relevant skills.  Participation in the training by mentors and mentees is required.

If you are interested in being a mentor, please read the scheme and return the mentoring application form, with the endorsement of your manager, by Wednesday 28th January.
