What is BCALS?
Birkbeck College Applied Linguistics Society (BCALS) is an official University of London society, formed to bring together students interested in Applied Linguistics and related fields (e.g., multilingualism, intercultural communication, TESOL, etc.) in the London area. The society is run for students by students, but staff and other non-students are also welcome to become members.
BCALS Goals:
BCALS has two primary goals: (i) to provide a relaxed and informal regular venue for students of applied linguistics and related fields to meet and socialise, and (ii) to foster members' academic and professional development.
Activities:
- Monthly evening meetings/social gatherings
- Open lectures and talks (with invited speakers)
- Online community and discussion forum (e-list & Facebook Group)
- Newlsetter publication with useful information for members
- Group trips to external events (e.g., talks, seminars, conferences, etc.)
- End-of-year conference (06 June 2009)

MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT:
BCALS will participate in the upcoming Freshers Fair and will have the first meeting of the term on Friday, 30 October at 6pm.
