Approaches to Language Module Review
Alumnus, Terence Derbyshire, writes about his experience on the Approaches to Language module.
Alumnus Student, Terence Derbyshire took our module Approaches to Language as part of the Grad Cert programme and wrote the following review:
"I attended the Approaches to Language course within the Graduate Certificate in Linguistics at Birkbeck. I found the course engaging and relevant for my interests. I valued the use of essays as the primary method of examination as it allowed us to flex the topic to our personal interests and level. I have recently been offered places at Oxford and at Cambridge to do an MA in Linguistics and Critical Theory and I think attending the Birkbeck course was a significant factor. Indeed, I used my Birkbeck essays as the work samples in my application and my interviewers mentioned the Birkbeck course. Hence I would recommend evening classes at Birkbeck to anyone looking to go on to further study in this area."
