The Birkbeck College Applied Linguistics Society

The Birkbeck College Applied Linguistics Society (BCALS) is an official University of London society, formed to bring together students interested in Applied Linguistics and Communications and related fields (e.g., multilingualism, intercultural communication, TESOL, etc.) in the University of London community and beyond. It is a student-run society aiming to bring people together and promote common interests in our fields. We strive to create an open atmosphere of dialogue and community through holding social events, hosting guest speakers and open lectures and talks.

Goals

  • To provide a relaxed and informal regular venue for students of applied linguistics and related fields to meet and socialise
  • To foster a cross-collaborative discussion between peers across programs

Activities

  • Regular evening meetings/social gatherings
  • Open lectures and talks (with invited speakers)
  • Online community and discussion forum (e-list & Facebook Group)
