Other libraries for Law

Libraries that are useful for law students include :-

  • University College Library (UCL) One of the larger University of London colleges, situated close to Birkbeck. Reference access available.

  • London School of Economics As well as housing a good law collection, the Library is also a European Documentation Centre and so provides access to a wide range of  European Union publications. Borrowing available for part-time students through the SCONUL Access scheme.

  • King's College London The Maughan Library on Chancery Lane holds the College's law collection. Reference access available.

  • SOAS The law collection is held in the Main Library, just off Russell Square. Borrowing for part-time students available through the SCONUL Access scheme.

  • University of Westminster The law collection is held in the Regent Campus Library, situated near to Oxford Circus.  Borrowing available through the SCONUL Access scheme for part-time students.

Specialist libraries:

  • Institute of Advanced Legal Studies A specialist research library with collections of national significance. Access is for Postgraduate Students only (this does not include Qualifying Law Degree LLM students).

SCONUL Access scheme

A national scheme which allows part-time and distance learning students to borrow from participating libraries. Some libraries also accept full-time postgraduates. Full-time undergraduates can use libraries on a reference only basis. Apply online via the SCONUL web site.

The scheme also has a strand for academic staff and students studying purely by research (MPhil or PhD). This allows borrowing at over 150 university libraries. Apply online via the SCONUL web site.

  • Union List of Serials - searches the journal holdings of the majority of University of London college and research institute libraries. To access, select 'Union List of Serials' from the Search drop down list.
  • COPAC - the combined catalogues of around 70 major UK research and specialist libraries, including Oxford and Cambridge.
  • Search25 - search across the catalogues of all the libraries in the M25 area, also gives links to their web sites and details of which subjects they specialise in.
