Books and Journals held in Birkbeck Library

Books

Search the Library catalogue to find books (tab above). The catalogue can be accessed from any PC that has access to the Internet and no username and password is needed. You will need your Library number (on the front of your College ID card) to reserve and renew books.

Encyclopedias and Dictionaries

Halsbury's Laws of England, a legal encyclopedia available via Lexis Library is a good place to start when trying to find information on a topic. Dictionaries can be found at 340.03 and 349.4103.

Some reference sources are available online. To access these from outside college you will need to have set the institutional cookie, you will then be able to use resources within the eLibrary. When trying to access resources you will prompted for your IT Services username and password. Books can be searched individually or by subject grouping and are all listed on the Library catalogue. Journals

Print Journals

Search the Library catalogue to find print journals (tab above). It can be accessed from any PC that has access to the Internet and no username and password is needed. Print journals are kept in alphabetical order by title on Level 4 of the Library.

Electronic Journals

The Library subscribes to over 25,000 electronic journals, many of which can be accessed from outside College with your IT Services username and password. Click on the eLibrary tab above and select Ejournals to access them. Also under eLibrary is a link to BIROn (Birkbeck Institutional Research Online)- a database of research papers by Birkbeck academic staff.
