We are looking for volunteers for our Student Library Forum. Students will be able to discuss Library services at Birkbeck with members of Library staff. The group will meet once a term.

Automated Telephone Renewals

We have implemented automated telephone renewals via 020 7631 6239. This service will enable you to get a list of items you have on loan and to renew them. This is an alternative to renewing via the library catalogue.

Increased fines on one week loans

Increased fines on one week loan items

Fines on One Week Loan items will increase to 50 pence per day from the 28th September. We are also introducing a £5 administration charge for non-returned items when we have to start ordering replacement copies.

You can easily avoid these charges by keeping your library account up to date and renewing on-line or by phone as soon as we send you a reminder. Email reminders are sent out before your books are due back.

Extended Library Opening Hours

Birkbeck Library will extend its opening hours from Saturday 27th February until Friday 11th June inclusive.

In addition to our present opening hours, we will now be open on a self-service basis between 8.30am and 10am on Saturdays and Sundays and between 10.30pm and 11.45pm on weekdays.

Changes to student email addresses

Birkbeck students should note that over the summer we will begin using the contact email address held on your student record. You can check and amend this via the "My Studies at Birkbeck" site. Please make sure that this is an address you check regularly and that it is able to receive messages from us.

Coffee bar refurbishment - possible noise disruption

Work to refurbish and extend the Costa Coffee counter on the ground floor will be taking place on the following dates: Wednesday 31st March, Thursday 1st April and Tuesday 6th–Thursday 9th April from 0700 – 1600.

We have been informed that noisy works will be kept to a minimum but some noise will be inevitable and Library users may be disturbed during this period. Rooms 151, 152 and 153 have been booked from 0800 – 2400h on 1st–6th April for students to study away from the noise.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

The coffee bar will be closed from Tuesday 30th March, re opening on Monday 12th April

Building Work and Noise Disruption over the Summer

As a result of building work around the College over the summer there may be some noise disruption in the Library from Monday 22nd June.

The Library exit is scheduled to be relocated during June, so there may be further disruption when this goes ahead.
