The Library is running the following workshops during the Summer Term on Saturday the 17th of June. The workshops will be held in the Library Seminar Room on Level 1 of the Library. All staff and students are welcome

There are a maximum of 30 places on each workshop. They may not run if less than 5 people book - we will contact you if a workshop is cancelled.

Improving Your Search Skills

A step-by-step workshop on how to conduct an effective and relevant literature search .
Beginning with analyses of your research question, then moving on to creating a search query and advanced techniques for searching on databases.  Book Now

Fake news, filter bubbles and algorithms: the effect on finding reliable information

This session will look at the issue of finding reliable information in a post-truth society where fake news is prevalent and filter bubbles, algorithms shape the way information is presented to us.

During the session we will consider the effect of the following on the process of finding reliable information:

  • Confirmation bias, echo chambers, personalisation
  • Filter bubbles and algorithms
  • Fake news

We will also look at ways to navigate and evaluate information in the academic context and beyond, putting those critical thinking skills into action. Book Now

Organisation and time management: tools for study

This workshop will look at how online tools Mendeley, Claro Capture, Trello & EverNote can assist you with organising your study and meeting your deadlines. Book Now

15:30 - 17:00

Managing your references with EndNote: the basics

An introduction to the basics of Endnote: online reference management software that helps you manage your references.
Endnote can be used to create bibliographies, store and organise references, and insert citations into your assignments.
This will be a practical session suited for beginners so feel free to bring your lap-top along.  Book Now
