Searching the web
There are several different ways of searching the web. You can use a search engine (such as Google), browse a directory (such as Yahoo) or use a subject gateway (such as SOSIG). There are specialised search engines for searching for people or images.
When searching the web, remember that anyone can put information on web sites and you need to carefully evaluate any material that you find to make sure that it is:

  • Accurate
  • Up-to-date
  • Not biased or trying to sell a product

You can learn to use the Internet productively by working through one of the online training courses linked from our Library web site.
The next page tells you how the Library can help you find reliable sources of information on the web.
