Researching a topic

This section will help you to use the resources of Birkbeck Library to research a topic, whether you need a few journal articles for your essay or are compiling a bibliography.
You will learn how to:

  • Think about your topic and your search terms in order to carry out the best searches
  • Search the Library catalogue by subject
  • Search and browse electronic journals, databases and the Internet
  • Obtain material not held at Birkbeck - by visiting other libraries and via the Interlibrary loan service.

Throughout this section you will pick up useful tips that can be used whatever type of resource you are searching.

You can use the navigation on the left to jump to a particular subject or you can use the Forward button below to work through the entire section, which should take approximately 15 minutes.
