  • Access the BUFVC whilst inside/outside College
  • Click on 'Sign in' in top right hand corner, then select Birkbeck College from the drop down menu, click on Alternative login, then + sign next to Universities, find Birkbeck College and follow instructions and enter your IT Services username and password.

What does it cover?

The pioneering ‘all-in-one’ search engine will provide users access to nine of the BUFVC online databases, containing over 13 million records, via a single entry point. The BUFVC federated search environment will allow researchers to easily view collated results relating to film, television and radio content. The nine individual databases are:

  • Dvf - Find DVD - A guide to audio visual materials for educational use. A database of over 30,000 titles, on a range of different formats, specifically chosen for their use in further and higher education. The website can be searched by title, participant, distributor, producer or keyword.
  • ILR - Independent Local Radio - Independent Radio Sharing Archive - 1150 programmes, including drama and documentaries, from the Independent Local Radio (ILR) Programme Sharing Scheme from 1983 - 1990.
  • LBC/IRN Audio Archive - The London Broadcasting Company / Independent Radio News audio archive consists of  4,000 hours of selected news and current affairs material (1973 - mid 1990s).
  • NoS - News on Screen - The world’s leading resource for the study of newsreels and cinemagazines, 1910-1983.  A database of 180,000 newsreel and cinemagazine stories linked to production documents and films together with articles, case studies and website directory.
  • Shk - This authoritative online database of Shakespeare-related content in film, television, radio and video recordings is international in scope, is regularly updated and currently holds over 7,300 records dating from the 1890s to the present day.
  • Tip TVTIP - TVTimes listings from 1955 - 1985 - A database of programme listings, taken from the London edition of the TVTimes, from September 1955 to March 1985.
  • ThW -This Week programmes from 1956 - 1992. Programme information from ITV's first current affairs series, This Week, which ran from January 1956 to December 1992.
  • Tri - The TRILT database includes a continuously updated Electronic Programme Guide to all UK TV and Radio broadcasts and is also an index to the over 450,000 hours of off-air television and radio that the BUFVC has recorded for access by members since 1998. The database includes listings for more than 300 channels from 1995 with more than 1 million records added each year.
