Ordering digitised readings to place on Blackboard / MOODLE (VLE)
General rule | Deadlines for submission | How to order readings
Under the CLA Photocopying and Scanning Licence, designated library staff are able to digitise key book chapters or journal articles to be made available in Blackboard for your students use. If you need help making resources available on Blackboard, please contact your Administrator or ITS in the first instance.
General Rule
The general rule of thumb under the CLA Licence that the College holds is:
- One chapter of a book or no more than 5% of the book, whichever is the greater
- One article from a journal or no more than 5% of the journal, whichever is the greater
- The item that is being scanned needs to be owned by the institution.
Deadlines for 2012/13
- Deadline to submit requests for use in the Autumn term is 29th June 2012
- Deadline to submit requests for use in the Spring term is 2nd November 2012
- Deadline to submit requests for use in the Summer term is 1st March 2013.
Please be aware that we may experience disruption during the Summer due to the Olympic Games. It would help us to manage the service if you could supply your lists of digitisation requests as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery of readings to you.
To order digitised readings
- Requests for digitised readings can be made at any time, though to guarantee readings are available when needed during busy periods such as the beginning of term, requests should be submitted 2-3 months prior to the date required.
- The readings will be made available at least one week prior to the date required, if submitted by the above deadline.
- Digitised readings requested without this period of notice will be made available as soon as is practically possible.
If you would like to order readings to make available via Blackboard, please contact your Subject Librarian and ensure you supply the following information:
(a) Course/module title and course code
(b) The start and end date
(c) Full citation details
N.B. Members of staff not specifically appointed as a Designated Person and students, are not permitted to scan under this licence. If they do so and do not seek the written permission of the rights owner, they may be putting themselves and the institution at risk of a claim for infringement of copyright law. Items scanned under the Licence by library designated staff are covered because this information is recorded and submitted to the CLA each year.
