New Students

Welcome to Birkbeck Library!

Joining the Library

You can order a student ID card once you are fully enrolled. This will give you automatic Library access and borrowing. For more information about your ID card see the Student Services website.

If you are only provisionally enrolled and do not yet have a student ID card you will need to bring a letter/email of offer on each visit to the Library. Alternatively, you may bring a form of photo ID  so that staff can verify your enrolment status on our student database.  Our staff will then admit you into the Library on a one day reference pass.

These are primarily aimed at newcomers, although all levels of student are very welcome to attend. They deal with a number of the Library tools that you will find most useful during your studies at Birkbeck. They will be publicised on our website and via social media. Our News and Events section will alert you to all upcoming events and new resources.
