Student Support

  • We are experts in understanding our students' needs and providing appropriate support:
  • Personal tutors: All students are assigned a personal tutor for the duration of their studies. The function of the personal tutor is to provide one-on-one academic support and guidance.
  • Please contact us if you have any specific support enquiries.

Learning Development Tutors

  • The Learning Development Tutors run the study skills and learning development programme for law and criminology students, including lectures, workshops, and tutorials.
  • Some lectures and workshops may be integrated into module lectures or seminars, whilst others are optional workshops which School of Law students are eligible to book and attend. They also manage and develop new self-study resources for the School of Law Study Skills site on Moodle.
  • Additionally, they are available to meet with students individually to discuss any specific needs they have

  • - Mastering the academic style in Criminology and Law

  • - Preparing for and taking exams
  • For current students, the Moodle module School of Law – Study Skills contains contact information for the Learning Development Tutors and an online booking system for individual appointments.
  • It also provides links to the booking page for School of Law workshops, as well as resources from previous workshops and an ever-expanding range of resources for self-study.

Careers

  • School of Law students have the opportunity to apply for a summer vacation scheme at a Law firm, increasing their likelihood of obtaining a Training Contract.
  • Every year, we run careers evenings for our current students, where we invite relevant law colleges and graduates of our courses to give students more information on potential law careers.
  • Birkbeck Talent is Birkbeck's in-house professional recruitment service aimed exclusively at assisting Birkbeck students, during and after their studies, to gain relevant work experience that will give them a further advantage in an increasingly competitive jobs market.
  • Birkbeck's Careers and Employability Service provides comprehensive careers, recruitment and employability advice, events and information services for our students, both online and face-to-face.
