Marty Slaughter

Marty Slaughter has been appointed as an Honorary Research Fellow in the School of Law until 30 September 2011.

Research area

Broadly, the relation between visual art and law/ethics. Specifically, the development of forgiveness and mercy in the late medieval and early modern periods as manifested in religious painting. This research focuses on two kinds of representation:

  • the passion of Christ
  • Mary as the Mother of Mercy

An ancillary study focuses on ugliness in Reformation art.
