Research interests

Steven's current research explores different theories and models of intelligence, including national security intelligence, business/competitor intelligence, intelligence-led policing, peacekeeping intelligence, and medical/health intelligence, among others. Steven's work also examines various theories, concepts and techniques of risk and security, and he is currently preparing a Special Issue for theĀ British Journal of Criminology (with collaborator Adam Crawford) which brings together leading security scholars from law, criminology, politics and international relations.

Other research Steven has conducted has explored different forms of terrorism and political violence, complex criminal organisations and types of organised crime, money laundering and terrorist financing, policing and urban safety, punishment and penality, and crime and fire prevention.
