MPhil/PhD Research Programme and Work in Progress 2010-11

Format:
The students will take the lead in presenting the reading that we will have for each week. In the case of the Work in Progress colleagues will present their work as example of critical legal thinking in action. This programme is open for all new and old MPhil/PhD students.

First Term

Friday 8 October: Induction: What does it mean to be a research student? Followed by socialising in the Students Union Bar (8.00pm).

Friday 22 October: What is Enlightenement? ( Immanuel Kant) & What is Critique? (Michel Foucault)

Friday 5 November: What is Critique? (Judith Butler); Is critique Secular (Talal Asad); & What is Critical Legal Studies? (Peter Goodrich, Costas Douzinas and Peter Fitzpatrick)

Friday 19 November: What is the Social? (Pierre Bourdieu)

Friday 3 December: Jose Bellido: Work in Progress. Christmas Drinks

Professor Costas Douzinas will Present this term his work at a date that we will confirm during the term.

Second Term

The second term will see more of Work in Progress. Work will be Presented by Colleagues and linked to the problematic of the critical and the social. They will all take place on Fridays at the same time and room.
