Text Message Alerts

ITS are responsible for the technical management of a number of text message alert facilities that are available for staff and students. These include:

Details of these are given below.

Please note that these services make use of a shortcode number for handling subscription requests (60300) that will only be recognised by UK mobile operator networks.  You will not be able to subscribe using the method described below if you are using a mobile phone with a non-UK mobile operator sim card on a roaming service while in the UK.

Costs
Subscribe/unsubscribe text messages will be charged at your standard network rate, but receiving text messages from these services will cost you nothing.

ITS service news alerts

If you want to receive ITS service news text alerts then subscribe to this service.  These free alerts will let you know of any major problems with our key IT services such as email, WebCT/Blackboard and our web sites.

To subscribe to this service send the following text message, without the square brackets, to 60300:

bbk itssnews start [your name]

If your name is Joe Bloggs, for example, you would send the message bbk itssnews start Joe Bloggs to 60300

To unsubscribe you would send the message bbk itssnews stop to 60300

 

Birkbeck newsflash alerts

Subscribing to this service will enable you to receive free alerts concerning issues of major importance to the College, generally of an emergency nature.  It is envisaged that this service would be used very rarely indeed - for example in the event of major disruption caused by a terrorist incident or major power failure.

To subscribe to this service send the following text message, without the square brackets, to 60300:

bbk newsflash start [your name]

If your name is Joe Bloggs, for example, you would send the message bbk newsflash start Joe Bloggs to 60300

To unsubscribe you would send the message bbk newsflash stop to 60300
