Facilities for people with visual impairments
ZoomText
ITS workstation rooms have ZoomText magnification and speech output software installed on all PCs. The magnification features include changing font size, colours, cursor size and text smoothing. Speech output compliments the magnification, but some sight is required to use ZoomTEXT.
SuperNova version 10
SuperNova version 10 magnification software with full speech output is available to be installed if a student requests it. Please see the contact details below to make the request.
Windows accessibility features, monitors and monitor arms
All of the built in Windows accessibility features, including increasing font and icon sizes, using the Windows Magnifier and changing the screen colours to suit your needs are available on the PCs in the ITS workstation rooms. Any changes you make will be saved in your profile so they will be there for you on any ITS PC that you use. Most workstation rooms have 1 or 2 larger monitors, and some rooms have flexible monitor arms too. For help with any of these facilities contact Assistive Technology Support, disit@bbk.ac.uk Tel: 020 079 0717
OmniPage and Scanning facilities
There are scanners with OmniPage scanning software in the Assistive Technology booth, room 411 on the fourth floor of Malet street main building and in the Library Assistive Technology Centre on the first floor in the library. These can be used to scan a book or journal and to convert it into text where it can be magnified or read aloud.
