How to get your ITS username and password

ITS Usernames and passwords are allocated to Birkbeck staff, students and some visitors.

Staff will normally have a username and password allocated when ITS receive their joining details from Human Resources. A few people (such as temporary staff) may need to contact their School Computer Representative.

Birkbeck students who have accepted a place are sent an email containing their ITS username and password to their personal email address as held within Birkbeck's student record system. Initially, the username and password can be used to complete enrolment on-line, and once enrolment has been completed, the computer account will be created automatically.

Returning students retain their original username and password.

External users will be allocated a username and password when hiring the facilities if appropriate.

Your ITS username and password will not necessarily work on systems that are locally managed by Schools and departments. Schools and departments who have locally managed equipment include Computer Science, Crystallography, Economics, and Psychology. You should contact your local support staff for advice.

Your username, password and email address will normally remain valid as long as you remain enrolled as a student at Birkbeck. However, if ITS have reason to think that the security of an account has been compromised your account could be suspended without warning, and you will need to go to the ITS Helpdesk to have it re-enabled.
